Returning from your dream vacation, or back at your desk after a great weekend, you might experience a brief moment of regret and doubt in which you start wondering why you have to return to the corporate routine.
You then wonder if there is another alternative. You no longer want to be an employee, working under someone else, you want to quit. At this moment, you might consider becoming an entrepreneur. You imagine yourself for a second working your own way, doing what you like, adding value, without pressure, unnecessary politics or bureaucracy.
It is a valid thought and the introspection is worth it, but there are a couple of things you should keep in mind if you are considering following this path. Being an entrepreneur myself, I want to offer some advice about this particular life and I'll do this by sharing with you some good and bad news:
The bad news is that as an entrepreneur, you probably (almost certainly) will not have as many free weekends or dreamed vacations for a while. It won't be easy as being an entrepreneur is not just a job but a 24/7 lifestyle you'll need to commit to. There is a common misconception that you will be your own boss, but this could not be further from the truth as you will have to interact and deal with almost everyone (customers, suppliers, investors).
The good news is that this moment of regret, of reluctance in front of the computer, of your monotonous corporate life will certainly disappear with your new venture, this will be an exciting new journey with plenty of opportunities for growth.
If you build a Startup with a clear purpose of what you want to achieve, happiness will simply take another form, you'll find it every day, among the ups and downs, the successes and failures of the emotional roller coaster of your venture.
It will certainly not be easy, but as an entrepreneur, you can definitively succeed as long as you keep your purpose in mind and focus on employing the right methodology, reducing risks and necessary investment, working collaboratively with others, with the support of peers from different disciplines, growing personally, professionally and socially in an incredible way.
Are you learning right now? Are you growing? Are you happy?
